Baron_Iveagh I'm currently doing some family history research and have more or less hit a wall. (I'va allready tried to find a copy of Castles and Stronghouses of Ireland, with no luck) Here are a list of castles that I'm having trouble finding pictures/floorplans/histories of:
Dun Locha: I've found lots of pics of this one, as it's the famous castle of three castle head, but all but two are of it from the front, and not a history other then it was given to the Croughlin family, nor floor plan in sight. Only castle I could find any legend of, as the lake there is supposedly the home of a fairy woman.
Ardentenane - A few referecnes to it as the early seat of the sept, but not much else, and only one pic. (Though there seems to be a lot of confusion over the name of it, as it's not gaelic. I belive the name is a corruption of the old french, ardentennant "The Good Servent" which to me makes sense, as it's near Shull, which contained a school built by bull of Innocent III)
Leamcon - Some nice pics of it for sale,but not too much data, and no floor plans. Only historical reference is that it fell by use of a sow. (a inquirey, what is a 'sow' as pretains to seige weapons? All I can find is an oblique reference that makes it sound like a metal shod battering ram.)
Ballydevlin - No data
Lissagriffith - No data
Dunmanus - A very few pics of it, and that it fell by decite. No additional data.
Rossbrin - Most history I have, but least images. Seems to have been destroyed.
Castle Meheagan - Not sure if this was a real castle of a fortified village. Seems to be no longer in existance.
Accounts claim that the O' Mahoney's of Iveagh built 12 castles, but these are all the ones that I can find reference to.

The only Leamcon I can find says ..' Vanished 17th stronghouse of Sir Willian Hull'. Be interesting if it still there in some form?

Rossbrin ... NE corner still standing to three stories.
Castle Mehigan ... site of castle built in 1540, ref: V800 261.

Baron_Iveagh Ok, according to Father O'Mahony's history of the O'Mahony septs, Leamcon is the same as Black Castle, on Mannaninish (aka Castle Island)which leads me to question if James Lyons O'Keefe is selling the right name on the right castle...
(As far as the spelling's go, I've found about 3 different spellings for every last one of them as I've gone along, so I went with whichever spelling looked the best to me.)

Spellings would be a pain, and no doubt different sources may give slightly different spellings. But so long as you tie them all together, things should roll along.
Sounds like you are pulling all those strings together though?

Baron_Iveagh One thing that drives me up the wall is that the English re-named everything, the Irish kept using the same names, no one spelled anything like what everyone else did, either the English tried to burn all the records, or the Irish did, and then the whole area was depopulated. And no one seems to have done much archeology in the area, either. I was just hoping that prehaps some of the readers here might have acess to sources that I don't.
